Kanye West debuted his highly anticipated Yeezy Season 4 collection at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park on the first day of New York Fashion Week.

The were little details given about the Yeezy Season 4 presentation which kept people guessing. The time was released only a day before the show, the location was announced on the day and guests were taken to the park via shuttle buses that some dubbed the “Yeezy Bus.”

Upon arriving guests were able to purchase merch before taking their seats. The shirts had the invite information printed on the front and “season 4” on the back.

Kanye subverted our expectations when the first model walked out onto the runway in a mini dress and paired with thigh-high boots.

This was the first time since his Yeezy Season presentations that Kanye used the traditional fashion show format of models walking down a runway.

That was followed by models in a variety of hoodie dresses, off-the-shoulder sweaters bodysuits, oversized jackets and Kanye’s usual camo inspired¬†apparel. This season continued its presentation of great footwear with lucite knee-high boots as well as a variety of baggy knee-high boots and of course pairs of widely successful Yeezy Boost 350s.

The aesthetic of the show wasn’t far from his previous collections as it continued his appreciation of a neutral color palette. Kanye played with contrasting silhouettes as he presented body conscious knitted dresses alongside slouchy sweaters. The concept of Kanye’s Yeezy Season collections have always been to produce staples of a wardrobe that will last forever, he recently told Vogue Magazine.

‚ÄúI want to make pieces that can be timeless‚Ķ Pieces that you can pick up out of a vintage store in 20 years and say, ‚ÄėWow, I‚Äôm happy I have this.‚Äô”

The models also wore pieces from Kanye’s upcoming jewelry¬†collaboration with Jacob the Jeweler. The founder of the company Jacob Arabo was in attendance at the show. It was Kim Kardashian West who first spoke of the collaboration between West and Arabo on her Twitter. Kanye officially confirmed to Vogue Magazine by calling the collaboration, “a letter to my wife from a past life that can live past our lives.”

Despite the controversy and assumptions surrounding his “multiracial women only” casting call, Kanye’s presentation almost exclusively featured models of color which on the landscape of NYFW is so refreshing.

Among the models featured was Teyana Taylor, who recently stunned the world in her starring role in Kanye‚Äôs¬†“Fade” music video.

Model Chanel Iman, who closed the Kanye West Spring 2012 RTW show in 2011 also closed the Yeezy Season 4 show. The symbolism of this moment speaks to how far Kanye has come in his journey in the fashion industry. The first time Chanel walked for him in 2011 his collection received sub-par reviews and since then Kanye has fought for the opportunity to create apparel.

After the show was done, Kanye walked out onto the runway to take his bow before going backstage to be with his family, friends, models and guests.
